It's Tuesday and I can't wait for this weekend to come! I am busy studying for the GMAT and finishing up my final b-school application. Meanwhile my body is telling me I need to chill out. I woke up this morning with a burning stomach and a headache leftover from last night. The source of my headache is work related and I'll get a break from it starting tomorrow until the end of this week. So... today's blog might be more scattered than usual, because my brain is processing information at much slower rates today. :o)

Yesterday I promised to give a recap of my date with Mr. Ex last Friday. I know that many of you are wondering why I went out with him again, after our conversation on Thursday (the night prior to our Friday date). I have thought about it quite a bit and all I can say is that his treatment of me up until that phone conversation has been pretty respectable. He was attentive and most of all he's an intelligent man (I always feel like I learn something after our conversations). When we were setting up our date on Thursday night he said he just wanted to keep it open and not worry about planning what we going to do.

Friday comes and I didn't hear from Mr. Ex until almost 6 PM; in my head I'm thinking this date isn't going to happen. Mentally I'd already started planning my alternative night of catching up on my Netflix movies in my PJ's (and perhaps buying some Nilla Cakesters on the way home). The first thing he says on the phone is "I thought you didn't want to go out with me because I didn't hear from you." I was expecting him to make the call since he has been the initiator of all of our dates.

We finally met up at Port Authority (Mr. Ex takes a bus in from NJ) a little after 8:30 PM. He had stopped and bought me donuts from Dunkin because he remembered that I like sweets; a nice gesture thought I didn't end up eating any of them. I suggested we walk up to Hell's Kitchen (hood in NYC for all you non-New Yawkers) and maybe find a place to sit down and talk. Our walk uptown was a little awkward because he was pretty quiet. I think he was probably thinking about the stupid ish he said the night before. I was my usual bubbly self (I hate conflict) and usually if I don't want to deal with you I simply (passive aggressively) ignore your phone calls until you (give up and) stop calling.

We ended up stopping to have dinner at a restaurant I occasionally frequented when I worked in the 'hood. Rice n Beans is a Brazilian restaurant and Mr. Ex loved it there because the flavors were similar to the Portuguese food he grew up on in Angola. He shared a little bit of his knowledge about the food and gave me a little history of how Brazilians took some of the Angolan culture and claimed it as theirs. He also spoke to our waiters in Portuguese and I think speaking in his native tongue made him more comfortable. Finally we started talking and he eventually said that he was "ok with waiting the 90 days for me, because he would like a relationship with me." He says he is serious about me, although he would 'do what he had to do in the meantime.'

Now this whole 'do what you gotta do' doesn't bother me while I'm not in a relationship with you; quite simply at this stage if I'm just dating you, then I have no claims on you. If we decide that we're together (doesn't mean married), then 'do what you gotta do' doesn't fly with me.

Cut to the next day...

We did have an awkward moment where he tried to give me a goodbye kiss and wanted me to wait until he did it. I ended up blowing him a kiss and hopping into the cab home instead of standing there for the passionate embrace he wanted. He did call me later on that night to make sure I made it home safely.

My biggest issue with him is the fact that he seems to be something that he referred to me as "an enigma." On one hand: he doesn't have a career to speak of (he currently works a couple of part-time jobs), lives with two roommates (he's 36 years old), tells bad jokes and says he can't wait 90 days without 'doing what he has to do.' On the other hand: he treats me well, is attentive, intelligent, seems geniune and told me he wants a long term relationship with me. There is something else going on here, but I'm not sure what. Why is he so concerned about my fertility? I have a lot to consider, but you'll hear more about this once I decide whether to NEXT him.

Ive been getting a lot of emails recently from people asking me:
What should I say when people ask me how much money Im making, because I just started building my Network Marketing business and I havent made any money yet?s definitely the famous question everyone will always ask you when you tell them youre doing Network Marketing. I know because that was the first question I use to ask to everyone as well. But that was before I learned to stop asking that question.
Why you ask?
Because its the wrong question to be asking.
Let me give you an example:
Q: How much money are you making money now?
A: (It doesnt matter if youre talking to someone on the phone or in person). Ha Ha (laugh a little) s the famous question. This is what I tell everyone when Im asked this question. When people ask that question theyre setting themselves up and theyre asking the wrong question.
Ill explain why:
1. People can say any dollar amount they want and you have no idea if its true or not.
2. Ive watched people who have no idea at all what theyre doing in Network Marketing and they end up sponsoring one person and that one person made them millionaires. But do you think you or I could follow that same system and become successful? I wouldnt count on it and I would never bet on those odds.
The next question I always ask people is:
How much are your upline leaders making right now?
They usually respond with re making about $40,000 a month (Of course the amount always changes from person to person.)
Then I respond with How much are you making right now?
The answer I hear 97% of the time is; Uh well nothing right now
Then my response is t you see it doesnt matter how much your upline leaders are making. If they dont have an effective system set in place for you to follow then its going to be extremely difficult if not impossible for you to make any money let alone $40,000 a month.
Why?
Because you cant duplicate them, your upline leader may be a superstar salesman and recruiter but that doesnt mean you or your downline can duplicate him/her or follow in their footsteps. But systems are duplicative. The question you need to be asking is, what kind of duplicative systems do you have in place that I could follow that would help me and my downline become successful faster and more effectively than my competition?s the important question because if you dont have an effective system to follow youre not going to go very far in this or any other business. And maybe youll hit the lottery and it will be that one person that makes you millions but as long as you count on other people to make you successful you will always be unsuccessful.
Dont ever count on one person doing it all for you.
A: (For new business partners) m new to Network Marketing or Ive recently joined with a new company. How much Im making right now isnt important because Ive got a great bullet proof system that I follow thats guaranteed to bring the kind of results Im after in this business. (then you can say the top paragraph as well).
Q: (Then if people are still persistent) You still didnt answer my (money) question?
A: Listen, I want people to break the habit of asking that question because its the first question everyone asks. I never answer it because it just keeps feeding the problem.ve never done a study but Id be willing to bet thats the most popular question that flows through this industry. Stop asking it and tell people to stop asking it as well. I think its just ignorance, people just dont know what the right questions are to be asking. So that question is the first one that pops up in their minds. And people just want to satisfy their curiosity as well.

As a result of being a home business owner for the last four years, I have noticed a consistent pattern of what makes or breaks an individual when they first start out. It has nothing to do with their background, and everything to do with their vision for their future. So many people get caught up in the mechanics of starting a business that they very rarely take the time to learn what really will make them a successful entrepreneur. I have compiled a list of ten common denominators, which when followed correctly, will give anyone the best shot at owning a successful home business.
1) Take responsibility for your current situation. It is OK to be where you are right now in your life (good or not so good), but know that it had been your decisions that created it. Where you are right now is all part of the path to where you are going.
2) Once you take responsibility for where you are right now, you can start to take ownership of where you would like to go. This is the fun part. Allow yourself to dream without doubting what you dream is possible. The key to this exercise is to dream from your heart. What do you really want in your life? Not what you think others want for you. Write down all of your thoughts. Once you have an idea, know that what you want is possible. It states that you have to BE the person you vision to BE, then you must DO the things that person would do on a daily basis, and as a result you will HAVE the things that person has. I suggest you write -BE-DO-HAVE- in large letters and post it in a place where you will see it several time per day.
5) So far we have done a lot of thinking and dreaming. Now it is time to take action. We know that what you have done up to this point has not brought you the results you are looking for. Needless to say, that is why you want to have a successful home business. You are going to require a business vehicle to make your dreams a reality. You have two choices; A) Start a new business based on your own idea, or B) Become involved with a business system that is working for others. Unless you have a great idea and deep pockets, choice A can be very difficult. Choice B, on the other hand, can get you in business very quickly. The problem is what business system do you utilize? A McDonalds Franchise? A Subway Franchise? A online business? There really are thousands of possibilities. You need to find one and stick with it. The last five steps will help you decide which opportunity will be right for you.
6) Perhaps the most important step in finding a business system is partnering up with a mentor who is already making the business work and is willing to show you the ropes. You need someone you can call for assistance and support. Make sure that you connect well with this person.

Unless you have been living on a deserted island with no means of communication you are perfectly aware that the economic experts are predicting a catastrophic melt down of the US economy unless a minimum of $700 Billion dollars is infused into Wall Street. I am no economist and so I will not debate whether or not the world is going to end if the government does not give away billions or possibly trillions of our tax dollars to rescue the system. However, I will offer my opinion that if you have an established home based business, preferably an MLM business and/or an affiliate marketing business, you will be able to have success from home by avoiding many of the problems that tight credit, employee payroll, office expenses, etc. create for other types of businesses.
If the current trend continues it is very likely that thousands of people will be forced from their jobs through downturns, layoffs, outsourcing, stagnant wages or the discouraging prospect of an outright pay cut. Many people will have no other options than to stay home because they cant find new employment.
The suffering economy will force many families into a very tight financial corner and some people could even end up losing their homes because they cant afford to pay their mortgages anymore.
Marketing from home with an MLM business is not a magic pill, but under current circumstances it could provide many people an opportunity for income that they would not have without it. If you already have an established MLM home business I would hope that you would consider working as a team with those looking to get started and help them in any way you can so that they can have success from home as well as you.
I must also state that just because a business is built on an MLM model does not mean that the parent MLM company will not suffer many of the same problems in a down economy as other business types. It will depend on many things including their product, solvency, business plans, etc. So for anyone just thinking about joining an MLM business it is important to do some extensive research on the company first. This is another reason that I personally do not believe in putting all my eggs in one basket. I prefer multiple streams of income.
Many people considering a home based business will be on a very tight budget in a down economy. They will not be able to afford hundreds of dollars to get involved and then $100 or more each month in product requirements to qualify for monthly income. Fortunately there are some quality MLM companies that have been around for many years that allow you to start for less than $100 and qualify for commission and bonuses for only $10 to $25 per month in maintenance or product fees. Of course there will still be some marketing expense involved, but there are many free and low cost tools available that can be used for marketing. I am also aware of some people willing to help their down line members by investing in marketing on their behalf, although this does not seem to be a common practice.
For those looking to get started in marketing a business from home, I cannot overstate the importance of finding a mentor that is willing to work with you as a partner to get you into a profit position as soon as possible. So, instead of trying to figure out how to market your network marketing business on your own, invest the time to find a mentor who can show you the ropes.
I can almost guarantee that you will begin to have success from home with your new home based business more quickly with a mentor that has a team mentality than if you were to go it alone. It wont matter if the economy is good or bad. Keep in mind, however, that just because someone is making a lot of money does not qualify him or her as a good mentor. They must be a team player and be willing to give priority to the interest of their new team member and not just their own personal interest.
