you can conserve existing mature bottom land hardwood forest, and restore retired bottomland agricultural lands back to bottomland hardwood forests. For managed bottomland hardwood forests, creative management strategies that maintain multiple age classes of preferred hard and softmast species through time will assure long-term habitat needs for Louisiana black bear. For adjacent slope forests, and upland forests, it is critical to leave significant streamside management zones (SMZs). These SMZs, in addition to providing food and cover for bears, can be utilized to provide corridors or linkages bet ween areas of suitable habitats. It is of critical importance in these bottomland hard wood forests, and within these SMZs to conserve mature hardwood treeswith significant hollows that could be utilized by black bears as den trees.

In addition to creation of black bear habitats through management of bottomland hardwood forests, it is important to minimize dumping of human garbage and foods near rural homes, and/or hunting camps. Bears are attracted to these areas, and can become acclimated to locating them for easy sustenance. This creates a situation that will lead bears into situations where they may actually be killed out of fear by some homeowners. In addition to problems with dumping, well-intentioned citizens, actually interested in bears near their homes, can create the same problem by actively feeding bears. The thing that must be avoided is training the bear to associate man with food. The natural fear that a bear has of man must be maintained for the safety of both the bear and man.

In addition, you can become a member of the Black Bear Conservation Committee. You can become either a supportive, or active member, and become active in the conservation of this species throughout its range.

Moko's back! YAY! After her last foray into acting, Kyoko has added Ren to her list of people to gain revenge on. Kyoko decides to use little Ren (voodoo) dolls to lure out Maria, since Maria is fond of Ren. Maria appears and is delighted at the detail in the Ren doll. Lory asks her why she's making trouble, and sure enough, Maria hates the new play. She says that the lead girl Angel caused her mother's death, and yet no one is angry at her for it. Instead, everyone forgives her, which is foolish. Even a child can see that people would hate her. Everyone is saddened by Maria's bitter words except Kyoko who applauds her and agrees that the sudden forgiveness is foolish. The students at the school then challenge Kyoko to act out the play in such a way that would show hate, but still lead to the same conclusion in the story.

So happy to have Moko back! She was catty and annoying, but she really becomes a great character, and seeing her with Kyoko in the Love Me uniforms was so much fun. A lot less happened in this episode than I expected, and I'm kinda disappointed by the lack of content. It feels like such a blip. Plus, the end of the episode is a terribly weak cliffhanger and I don't feel as much anticipation for the next episode, even though I know it'll be good. The vocal cast once again carries the show, with animation, music and SFX clean, but not outstanding. I wonder if Moko has some sort of eidetic memory? She memorized the book and the script, and she recognized that Kyoko's voodoo dolls were perfect replicas. That would be kinda cool.

THE EXPOSITION: Duke (6-0) got a much-needed break after playing four games in eight days. The Blue Devils are coming off their 78-58 victory over Montana.
Duquesne (4-0) hasn’t exactly played top-flight competition yet. The Dukes have defeated High Point, Saint Francis (PA), Furman, and South Carolina Upstate. It will be interesting to see (a) if Paulus plays today; and (b) how he fits back into the rotation.
THE ANTAGONISTS: Duquesne had a surprisingly good season a year ago (its first winning campaign since 1993-94), but the Dukes are now one of the youngest teams in the country. Duquesne boasts eight freshmen and four sophomores on scholarship, with just one senior on the roster. That’s versatile senior Aaron Jackson, who’s played the 1, 2, and 3 in his first three seasons. Last season, Jackson averaged nine points per game; this season, he’s stuffing the statline with 17.3 ppg, 7.5 apg, 7.0 rpg, and 3.3 spg.
Duquesne likes to play fast, so expect this to be an uptempo game with Duke making a lot of substitutions.

And there's freshman James Rodgers, who happens to be the older sibling of "Mr. Touchdown." For now, we'll call James "Mr. All-Purpose" after the elder Rodgers had 170 all-purpose yards (115 rush, 40 receiving, 15 return) against Maryland.
But if we're talking about the real future in Corvallis, we need to look at the kid who just rushed for 8,245 yards and broke the state record for career touchdowns (136) at Lamar Consolidated High School. Remember, Texas is where Cedric Benson, Adrian Peterson, Billy Sims, Earl Campbell and Eric Dickerson played high school ball.
Jacquizz was voted the Texas Associated Press Sports Editors player of the year.

Also, start counting on the elder Rodgers to continue the recruiting effort on behalf of Beaver Nation, which ends up as an important development.
Having two Rodgers around next season is significant because Riley's program has some good mojo going. And if "Mr. Touchdown" shows up next season, helping to replace Bernard, who, once upon a time, was also told by perennial Top 25 teams that he was too small (5-foot-9), well, this could get interesting.
Start counting. And watching. And here's hoping that one Rodgers becomes two.

The major development of the week however was former US Joint Chiefs General Colin Powells endorsement of Senator Obama. To realize the importance of this, one must first examine the role that this hero plays in Republican Party and the electorate in general.

Gen. Powell has been recognized as a leader of the Republican segment of the Party. He was forced out of the White House, lied to, and hung out to dry by Karl Rove and company. Hes lucky he got out with some of his integrity still intact. And knowing what we know now about Iraq, hes the ONLY one who came out smelling like roses. Powell is a Republican. Hes generally politically moderate, and highly respected - and since hes not really caught up with a.) the President, b.) any failures within the Party, and c.) any kind of scandals - hes got total name recognition and real street cred.

So at this time, Gen. Powells endorsement is huge for two reasons:
1.) It gives moderate (or use whatever youd like) Republicans to vote for Obama. Powell made the casemost of it irrefutableas to why a conscientious conservative Republican can vote for Obama.

2.) It gives permission for military vets to vote for Obama. Powell, in many ways, can be considered the top vet, given his former job as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. His endorsement paves the way for other veterans who would otherwise vote for McCain strictly on the veteran card to consider Obama and not feel like a traitor. Why is this important? Oh, wellmaybe the HUGE population of vets in states like Florida, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohioyou knowall those states that McCain MUST WIN for him to capture the presidency.

The Federal Marriage Amendment is a tricky subject. Well, its actually not. Anybody who takes a Civics class knows the clause in the US Constitution that states that any issue not specifically enumerated in the Constitution is left in the pervue of the states. Like marriage. And drivers licenses. Its a really easy out for Republicans who dont want to get caught up in the gay debate. Vote no on the FMA b/c you support states rights and this takes rights away from the state. Thats what Senator McCain said, and how he votedin the Senate. Hes been a LONG adversary of the FMA - its one of the cornerstones to his image.

So yesterday Sarah Palin goes on The 700 Club (all news, all , all the time) on the Christian Broadcasting Network (Pat Robertson) and comes out in favor of a constitutional ban on gay marriage (FMA) - in total opposition to Senator McCains stance.

We are 14 days out from the election. What the HELL is Palin doing coming out and publicly breaking with her ticket-leaders stance on such a controversial social issue?

And what did it achieve? Absolutely NOTHING. She didnt convince ANY person who wasnt going to vote for her already to do so. Her credentials are so strong on the abortion issue that she has solidified the social conservative constituency within the electorate (and Party). Hard as a rock. She didnt need to come out in such fierce opposition to gay marriage (especially when it is rumored that she was supposed to do an interview with the national GLBT publication The Advocate to help soften her hard-line stance with the gays, who voted 25% and 23% in 2000 and 2004, respectively, for Bush).

So whats the sum of all of this? That Maverick independent middle that decides elections in this nation has been basically given the to vote for Obama, and then Palin basically goes and blows her chance on national TV to redeem herself and moves further to the extreme right on a pivotal social issue. And this all happened in one 72-hour chunk!
