ok.
first of all, this song is absolutely worth a listening to (or 15)
kenny wayne sheppard can play the guitar like few others
and the lyrics are great
and the vocals are great

second, i am colorblind (as many men are. few women. dont know for sure why that is. although i can think of a few reasons.) so my comments in color might not be as manly as, say, the booty award. but thats how it goes.

on to the song.

Blue On Black

Night falls, I'm alone
Skin, chilled to the bone
You... turned and you ran
Slipped right from my hands nice.

Blue on black
Tears on a river
Push on and shove
Don't mean much
Joker on Jack
Match on a fire each line in this chorus is a piece of work. LOVE IT!!!!
Cold on ice
As a deadman's touch
Whisper on a scream
Doesn't mean a thing
Won't bring you back
Blue on black

Blind, now I see
Truth lies, and in between
Wrongs can't be undone
Slipped from the tip of your tongue
Blue on black
Tears on a river
Push on and shove
Don't mean much
Joker on Jack
Match on a fire
Cold on ice
As a deadman's touch
Whisper on a scream
Doesn't mean a thing
Won't bring you back
Blue on black
Blue... on... black...

I had this whole plan. I was going to make this totally deep, meaningful post about the teen show by which all others are judged: My So-Called Life. Then I was going to calmly segue into mentioning that Wilson Cruz, who of course played Rickie Vasquez -- for most of us in or around our 30s he was the first, and most out and proud gay kid we saw regularly on TV -- is in this year's Out 100. Now, Wilson is a totally amazingly sweet guy, and smart, and funny, and hot, and he's done an extraordinary thing in Hollywood since that show was unceremoniously yanked off the air by ABC after only 19 episodes: he's been a working actor, one who worked steadily and consistently. And he was never not out. (He also has one of my favorite MySpace blogs, by the way, because it sounds exactly like talking to him in person: down to earth, thoughtful, serious but not without a sense of humor.)
Anyway instead I brought up the idea to Noah and this is what happened:
Shana: did you know you can watch MSCL on ABC.com now???
Noah: do you have a favorite? i love the mother daughter fashion show one where they play enigma at the end. and claire scrunches up her chin. her chin scrunch ALWAYS gets me crying
Shana: i love the finale of course. also i love the boiler room one.
Noah: GOD, the boiler room one!
Shana: where they're making out all the time but he won't tell his friends. and then at the end after the buffalo tom show and rayanne yells at him he TAKES HER HAND IN THE HALLWAY.
Noah: THAT YES. HE TAKES HER HAND. i'm getting like choked up RIGHT NOW. i can see it perfectly!
Shana: I KNOW. also my other favorite one is where they are doing the play. and katimski is giving rickie a hard time about signing up
Noah: oh yeah. that's a great one.
Shana: and he keeps calling him enrique. and finally rickie is like THAT'S NOT MY NAME. and then he says something about he doesn't hate it, it's just not his name. and katimski says, that's good. a person should never hate who they are. and then rickie goes and signs up for drama club or WHATEVER. and i cry every time. bc that teacher is such a fucking spaz. but he's like, oh little gay kid it will be OK.
Noah: YES. i have it on dvd. i watch it sometimes.
Shana: of course! i love the christmas one even though it is totes cheezy.
Noah: YES! and the angel is julianna hatfield! she's all like, busking in the afterlife
Shana: and at the end jordan drives rickie home and they sort of bond over having shitty families that don't love them
Noah: it's totes tender. it was just such a real show -- as gross and lame as that sounds?
Shana: no, it was. also even though i was fan of the violent femmes before that show, every time i hear blister in the sun i want to jump around my room like angela declaring she is over jordan catalano.
Noah: YES YES YES
Shana: i bet that scene is on youtube somewhere
Noah: oh totally.

Among the south girls making their debut in Bollywood, the spotlight has been on Asin and her Ghajani. The way the media has been going ga-ga over her has given the impression that she is going to be the next big star in Mumbais tinsel town.

But, before Asin makes a splash on Christmas day, the soft-spoken Sada, a one-time hot heroine of Kollywood who has acted in super hits like Jayam and Anniyan, will be seen making her debut in Bollywood. Actually, she was seen in the Hindi dubbing of Shankars film Aparachit, through which she got all the offers in Hindi. Sadas first Hindi release has been titled Khallballi Fun Unlimited, which will be releasing next Friday.

She is paired with Nikhil Dwivedi in this comedy caper. Says Sada, a Maharashtrian Muslim girl, Khallballi is a laugh riot, and Im really happy that I got to debut in a film which has 32 comedians including Chunkey Pandey, Johnny Lever and Rajpal Yadav. The music of the film by Sajid-Wajid is a chartbuster. Seeing the promos of the film, I have got so many offers coming my way.

Boom Boom Chik: Brit Brit is BACK

  • Nov. 24th, 2008 at 6:23 AM

Ace of Base's chart-topping debut Happy Nation/The Sign on my iTunes playlist a few weeks ago and decided to see what the group was up to. Despite having released an album in 2002 called Da Capo, their last US release was 1998's Cruel Summer, a pop album in sync with the sound of those times. They quite literally dropped of the face of the planet (as far as this side of the Atlantic is concerned) and the once hot band effectively dropped off our collective consciousness.

So when I found out they were releasing a remix of "Wheel of Fortune", one of the hot singles from Happy Nation/The Sign, I was a bit skeptical. I was a HUGE fan of Ace of Base - how huge? I sang "The Sign" at a talent show when I was nine and sang "Everytime It Rains" from Cruel Summer at my performing arts high school audition. Ace of Base got me into high school, folks. So yes, I loved them.

However a lot has happened in the past ten years in music and in AoB's life as well. Malin (known as Linn), the strange blonde lead singer, left the group and AoB's members got, well, old. But "Wheel of Fortune 2009" is a new take on an old idea. AoB's members Jonas, Jenny, and Ulf left that pop-reggae sound behind and instead opted for the dance/electronic sound popular now. "Wheel of Fortune 2009" lacks the soul and the grittiness the original track had. There is something to be said for those outdated synthesizers they used. And Linn's low mezzo-soprano voice, with all of its imperfections and sense of urgency, is not found in this track.

I give credit to AoB for trying to reinvent itself because as times change, so do the members, but I do feel they played it safe on this track. "WoF 2009" sounds too edited, too rehearsed - Jenny's vocals are neither convincing nor take you to the heights that Linn's did. This is no fault of her own - her voice sounds boring compared to all of the instrumental pyrotechnics going on behind her. You don't think of her voice and the instruments as complementing one another; in "WoF 2009" the electronic elements are at the forefront and the musicality the vocals bring are left on the backburner. There is no emotion in her rendition. It's almost as if they said, "Ok Jenny, just sing it straight through, it'll be fine." No improv. No riffs here and there. Just sing it and get out of the booth.

Below you'll find videos to both "Wheel of Fortune 2009" and the original 1994 version. Which one do you like best? You be the judge.

Also: Ace of Base's Greatest Hits album will be released on November 14th. Essential for any AoB fan. Sure it sounds very 1990s, but their earlier hits remain brilliant even with all the time that's passed. AND I AM SO HAPPY THEY ARE BACK ON THE SCENE!.

This is just a note I found meaningful.
Quoted from a note (or whatever you call it) of a friend in facebook.

"BUT, if being a Christian means that I have to be like one who had no place to lay his head, if it means I must learn how to give all I have to the poor, if it means that I have to sit and eat with prostitutes and Samaritans, if it means that I have to defend justice even if it hurts my selfish interests, if it means I have to learn to be poor in spirit and to mourn with the broken in this world, if it means I must bear solidarity with the poor, the widow, the orphan, and the alien, if it means that I have to learn to stand up to injustice even when it is unpopular to do so, if it means I must be willing to be cursed by others and spit upon as our Savior was, if it means I must stand in protest to a world that too easily goes to bed with wealth and power, if it means that I have to learn what it means to be crucified, not so that I gain something, but so that others might live, then sign me up."

It's good to go read the whole thing.

Those of you who know me personally, know that I like to be in bed by 11. Im a homebody. A couch potato. I love me my TV and take in. My Friday nights consist of trips to Target. My Saturday nights include Chinese and DVDs. But last night/very early this morning I took a step on the wild side and saw a midnight showing of Twilight! Yes, its finally here. And Edward Cullen got me out of my pajamas and into a deliciously supple leather reclining movie chair (more on that later).
I have to say as a huge, loyal fan of the book I thought I would be disappointed. I managed to maintain low expectations (despite the fact that I was incredibly pumped and counting down the seconds). Happily, I was very pleasantly surprised. The movie was very true to the book. It was visually stunning. (Though they tried to squeeze in every intricate camera trick in the book. A little much.) The acting was impressive. And you could cut the sexual tension between Bella and Edward with a knife.
Robert Pattinson really grew on me too. (Although occasionally it looked like they caked on way too much white-face on the poor boy.) And Kristen Stewart was the ultimate awkward, clumsy, and beautiful tom-boy. I cant imagine a better Bella. I wasnt ecstatic with the casting of Rosalie and Alice Cullen. These are supposed to be two of the most stunning, gorgeous women on the planet. Theyre supposed to take your breath away. And I thought they were mediocre at best.
Nevertheless, all minor issues aside, I left the theater happy and satisfied. I think all Twilight fans will be pleased.
Go Team Cullen.

LOS ANGELES, Calif.
Britney Spears is craving more freedom — and less of the “control” that’s stabilized her personal life and reinvigorated her career over the last several months.
In an upcoming behind-the-scenes documentary, the 26-year-old pop star says: “If I wasn’t under the restraints that I’m under right now, with all the lawyers and doctors and people analyzing me every day and all that kind of stuff … I’d feel so liberated, and feel like myself.”
The 90-minute film, “Britney: For the Record,” airs Nov. 30 on MTV and the LOGO network. She is shown backstage at the MTV Video Music Awards; recording her new album, “Circus”; dodging the paparazzi; and goofing off with her father, Jamie, who controls her personal and financial affairs.
While her career takes a positive turn, Spears says she’s sad and feels her life is “too in control.”
“There’s no excitement, there’s no passion, there’s no nothing. It’s just like `Groundhog Day’ every day, you know? So I’m really bored,” she says, getting teary.
The mother of two young sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline says she “used to be a cool chick,” but the paparazzi has made it impossible for her to be out and about. In the documentary, which was executive produced by Spears’ manager Larry Rudolph, her security staff discusses hiring a decoy to fool the cameras.
Spears’ turnaround kicked into high gear in September when she nabbed three VMAS, including video of the year. Now on the comeback trail, she has a hit song, “Womanizer,” and is releasing “Circus” next month.
She talks about her two-year downward spiral, which included a divorce, a custody battle, public meltdowns and a sluggish performance at last year’s VMAs, when she barely made it through a dance number of “Gimme More.”
“I’ve been through a lot this year — well, actually the past two or three years,” she says. “And my trust has really been battered. I’ve definitely grown up — big time. And I’m very weary of a lot of things. Very protective of myself.”
She says sometimes she gets lonely.
“You’re guarded,” she says. “You have to be that way, otherwise you get taken advantage of and get in situations like I did the past year. I totally lost my way. I lost focus, I lost myself, I had that type of nature within me that wanted to rebel out.
“I never wanted to become one of those prisoner people — I always wanted to feel free and get in my car and go and not let people make me feel like I have to stay in my home. I think that was always the part of me that kinda got me in trouble,” she says.
Spears dishes on Federline and ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake in the film.
“With Justin, he was a part of the magnitude of what I’d become,” says Spears, who ended a three-year relationship with Timberlake in 2002. “So then when he was gone, I was like, `What am I supposed to do with myself?’ … I would go out just to keep my mind busy, just to keep going.”
While she was devastated over her breakup with Timberlake, she says she handled that better than her separation from Federline in November 2006.
“With Kevin, because I had two children with him, I did not know what to do with myself,” she says. “I had built my dream home in Malibu, a huge house and a pool and a huge yard for the kids and I did everything for them. And just my world was that.”
She says she married Federline for the wrong reasons instead of following her heart. As a result, she went down a “weird path.”
She says her marriage disintegrated when Federline began concentrating on his rap career.
When it ended, “I felt so alone. I didn’t really want to think about the reality of it. It was like, `I’m OK.’ … But I never really faced it, and I just ran,” she says.

The National Book Awards' change of venue last night and the arrangement of the awards' first official after-party in years, at the decidedly unbookish Socialista resulted from a happy little coup on the board of the foundation. Old-time agent Lynn Nesbitt agreed to join the National Book Foundation's board on only one condition: They leave the awful Marriott behind. Her colleague Morgan Entrekin, publisher of Grove Atlantic and veteran of the Odeon-McInerney era, was responsible for the after-party. He had deputized younger, slightly less bookish folks (Sloane Crosley, Jessica Joffe) to invite friends and friends of friends. As of 7 p.m., 450 people had RSVP'd yes to the party, which was meant to accommodate 300. Everyone at the ceremony was also invited. It was shaping up to be a potentially firefighter-mediated event to remember.

The dancing is amazing. Zac Efron practically jumps on the walls.  And theres a song (The Boys Are Back) where they are literally running and dancing on tires. (Not gonna lie Its very impressive.) There are some really sweet ballads between real-life lovebirds Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron. Some quirky-cute snobby songs (ala Ashley Tisdale) that will be going through your head for days on end.
And if you still need some convincing. Zac Efron is always sweating and he takes his shirt off A LOT. And that boy has grown up. And you maybe, possibly, just might have some inappropriate thoughts about this fictional high school hunk. (Um. Not that I did.) Go see the latest showing possible all the ladies in the audience will be hooting and hollering.
And dont be alarmed if you get kicked out of the theater You might end up dancing on the chairs. (Um. Again. Not that I did.

They are some of rap's biggest stars! They also happen to be some of rap's most targeted and troubled stars. We can assume because of their star power, they are an unfair target. We can also assume that celebrities do what they want and get away with damn near everything. Unfortunately rap stars can't escape jail as there has been an alarming rate of arrests in the last few months. I take a look at some of rap's troubled stars and why exactly are they so troubled. It is a subject that has been on my mind lately which influenced this post.

Snoop Dogg
He is the King of Cool. No one is my book is cooler than Snoop. He has been very successful over the last 15 years. The last few years of Snoop's career has been dogged by numerous arrests and run-ins with the law. It just doesn't add up. How can the King of Cool always come under such scrutiny? Is it because he is rich and famous? Does Snoop still possess a lot of the bad boy qualities he exhibited nearly15 years ago? One can only assume. One can also come to the realization that as a black man and as a rapper, you are automatically a target.

T.I.
T.I. is too cool for school. He has a laid-back demeanor that makes he seem very relatable and down to earth. Unfortunately you can never judge a book by its cover. For T.I. the last few years has seen his star rise with every album. His success has also increased his number of arrests and run-ins with the law. Perhaps in T.I.'s defense its simply a case of "Mo Money Mo Problems".

DMX
The hype for DMX upon his debut was simply ridiculous. I remember being a freshman in high school and he was all the older guys talked about. At the time I wasn't so into rap nor was I into DMX. Eventually DMX would become a huge star in his own right and a very troubled one. In recent months, D has come under attack for his treatment of dogs, theft, fraud, and much more. It is a definite fall from grace. I can't count D out though. Everyone loves a good comeback.

Foxy Brown
It wasn't long after Foxy Brown exploded onto the scene that her infamous attitude did too. The teenage star(at the time) was very young and very troubled from the start. As the years progressed it seemed like Foxy Brown's reputation grew worse. There were various run-ins with not only the law but other stars and individuals as well. Foxy later spoke about her troubles on her track, "730" (a slang for crazy) which gave us just a hint at what truly makes her tick.

Kanye West
No star is more outspoken than Kanye West. It is his outspoken nature that has led to many of Kanye's rants and recent arrests. Earlier this year Kanye West scuffled with a photographer while he was in the airport. Just recently the star made headlines again for suspicion of assault to a photographer. Kanye's latest arrest is what led to this newest music feed.

Lil' Wayne
No rapper in rap has more charisma than Lil' Wayne. Playful, endearing, and witty are some of the quality's rap's top dog exhibits. When you read of Wayne's long list of felonies over the years, you wonder how the Superman of Rap gets caught up in some much mess. Could it simply be that Wayne is a target like many other successful rappers? That notion is partly true but Wayne's penchant for drug paraphenalia may be one of the reasons why he is rap's most wanted.

Lil' Kim
The last few years haven't been so kind to Lil' Kim. Ever since her release from jail, its been a revolving door of lawsuits that has attacked Kim. Whether its songwriters or producers suing Lil' Kim, it seems no artist is safe from lawsuits. There are seems to be some lawsuit brewing from label contracts or unpaid royalties.

Game
This was a last minute decision to include the West Coast rapper. I just thought about him as I was doing the labels for this post. Candid and very outspoken, Game never holds back especially when it comes to label politics, 50 Cent, or his own troubled times. They include assaults, gun charges, and the list goes on. Game recently stated his retirement from the rap game. It is something that I hope is not exactly true but if it is, he is bowing out gracefully. Let's just hope his retirement won't lead to him getting in more trouble.

Once upon a time in College Park
Where they live life fast and they scared of dark
There was a little nigga by the name of Cris
Nobody paid him any mind
No one gave a shit
Knowing he could rap
No one lifted a hands
So he went about his business and devised a plan
Made a CD and then he hit the block
50 thousand sold
Seven dollars a pop
Hold the phone
Three years later
Steeped out the swamp
With ten and a half gators
All around the world on the microphone
Leaving the booth smelling like Burberry cologne
Still riding chrome
Got bitches in the kitchen
Never home alone
And hes on the grind
Please let me know if hes on your mind
And respect youll give me
Ludacris I live loud just like Timmy
Fuck, have to clear these rumors
I got a headache and its not from tumors
Get up on my lap and get my head sucked tight
Sprayed so I never let the bed bugs bight
Hard to the core
Core to the right
Drop down turn around pick a bale of cotton
[Chorus]
[People in the background chatting]

* Mastermind manager Larry Rudolph always told me that the royal return he was engineering for pop superstar Britney Spears would be “the biggest and best comeback in showbiz history.” He’s within 30 days of seeing that promise come true: He is in the midst of carefully executing his top secret plan, and Vegas has a mighty lot to do with it!
Here’s what I’ve learned so far since the rumor mill went into heavy overdrive:
- Negotiations are going down to the wire for Britney to appear on the Strip on New Year’s Eve with a special two-song performance on network television and she’ll co-host part of the year’s retrospective in music segment.
- Her new album, will be released on her birthday, Dec. 2.
- Britney herself will soon announce a new world Circus tour, with tickets going on sale in early December.

Finally, my expectations were defeated in my house last night at 7. I love kittens and especially the ones that were with me till yesterday. Putting a denial in front of you against the fact that my parents and I faced a lot of problems because of these kittens will be totally unfair. I do accept that we were on a S**T job till yesterday. But, they are 3 month old kittens. It's hard and unacceptable to expect discipline and good behavior from them. Their actions can be justified when we consider the moments when we totally forgot what discipline really means. I can prove anyone who says the kittens are bad wrong because they are not really bad. They are kittens. They are innocent except for when they run behind their preys. That is their way of life. That is how they are calibrated by God to live. The mother gave birth to 4 cute and adorable kittens 3 months ago. About 50 days back, the eldest kitten, which I call that way keeping in mind its size and weight, passed away after suffering almost for a week from some bacterial infection. I dug him a graveyard in my backyard and gave him a muddy send off party. I still remember his eyes. They looked innocent and tired. After making sure that wouldn't happen again to any of the remaining kittens, I was determined to grow them till they became independent. They grew up. They were with me till yesterday. I knew it was time to get them over to a safe place so that all the discomforts my parents felt with 3 kittens at home would be thrown away. I even decided a safe place for these kittens near my friend's place. I chose that place because it was dark, safe and closer to my friend's place, which I visited habitually. I wanted to make sure I see them grow though they couldn't be kept at my place anymore. When I came home to get these kittens readied for a journey they have never been on in their lives, I found two of the kittens missing already. I understood what could have happened in my absence. My parents took the kittens to a not so posh area near my place and set them free. They say they set them FREE. They never knew they have toppled the lives of two small creatures. The third one was so lucky that my parents couldn't get their hands on it since it is a hyper-active kitten and is the eldest now. Now, all that I am left with in my place is a kitten who is still searching for his sister and brother. I hope the other two lives as long as the cat with the longest life on Earth lived.

Cyberphunk - Im Bringing Hobbity Back

In September, 2001, I bought Sting, an HP iPAQ 3635. It served me well for about four years, and then I upgraded to Angrist, an AudioVox 6700 Pocket PC smart phone. It's still gathering dust in a corner of my house.

One of my main gripes about Sting was that it had a great lithium polymer battery that lasted for 7-8 hours for the first year, but then developed a severe case of battery memory. That's when you charge a battery up fully, drain it down a little bit, and then charge it back up again, and its charge capacity and time to depletion drop as it ages. I've had terrible battery memory with nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries, moderate effects with nickel-cadmium (NiCad), mild effects with lithium ion, and pretty severe effects with lithium polymer (I've replaced the battery in Angrist several times already.)

When I called HP tech support, they told me not to let it drain so badly that I couldn't boot without plugging the PocketPC into its charge cradle, because it "strips the polymers from the battery". I'm not sure what that means, but it sounds dire.

Which brings me to the actual subject of my post. When I get a little overloaded, I simply increase my power consumption, where "power" here means caffeine, calories, and morale. Well, you can imagine what happens when I get to 0% on any of the above.

Moral: If you have an advisor who's willing to go past hibernation... don't strip the polymers.
